University of Connecticut Neag School of Education Husky Sport

In School Programs

Remember how much fun you had in art, music, and gym class? Remember how much you learned? Well folks, we have joined the hallowed ranks of In School enrichment.

Started in 2009 at John C. Clark Elementary and Middle School, over 200 students and teachers, from 14 classrooms (every Kindergarten – 6th grade class), visits the “Husky Sport Room” once per week. This enrichment program is built into the classes’ schedules just like music, art, and gym class. Curriculum is developed to meet the identified needs and interests of Clark School teachers and students, and then implemented by a consistent leadership team of Husky Sport staff.

Points of emphasis for In School Program:

  • Student, teacher, and Husky Sport collaborative learning
  • Age and culturally relevant curriculum
  • Nutritious snack and education
  • Physical activity and games
  • Life skill development (i.e., respect, accountability, leadership, communication)
  • Literacy and numeracy skill development
  • Consistent UConn presence and student development
  • Pursuit of happiness
  • Evaluation of programming and suggestions for improvement
